Is my Fatbike illegal?
Many Fatbikes in the Netherlands, such as the OUXI V8, do not comply with European and Dutch regulations. But they are simply sold at regular bike shops, online or on the market. So often people do not know they are on an illegal Fatbike ... Your electric Fatbike is illegal when one or more of the points below are not in order:
- Motor power above 250W: Greater motor power is illegal. Often we see that a Fatbike, despite going 25km/h, has too much motor power.
- Throttle without pedal assistance: Is there a throttle on your Fatbike and does it go faster than 6km/h? This makes the Fatbike officially a motor vehicle, for which you need a driver's license and insurance. So without license plate and inspection it is illegal!
- Speed above 25 km/h electrically assisted: This exceeds the allowed limit for electric bikes, you are uninsured!
- No EU mark (CE mark): Without this marking, the vehicle does not meet road safety requirements and has not undergone the necessary safety tests.
